What the Hell is Toner?

Toner is one of skincare's greatest mysteries. What exactly is it? Do you need it? How do you use it? Let us help!

Toner is a necessary product to add to your dedicated face routine and will offer a deeper cleanse than your regular cleanser. It can be perceived as a "double cleanse," helping to purge and clarify much further than other skincare products. If you've used a toner before, you probably recognized a slight "tightening" feeling after application, which is actually the shrinking of your pores happening right before your very eyes! Closing your pores after cleansing is SO important when it comes to absorbing the rest of your facial treatments and protecting your skin for the entire day. The tighter your pores, the less chance you have of absorbing unhealthy amounts of dirt, excess oil, and air pollutants.

If you're wondering if you need to include a toner in your daily face rituals, the absolute answer is YES! Don't get me wrong, all toners aren't accepted by every individual's skin. Our skin is as unique as our souls. With that said, there's definitely a best-suited formula for every skin type or condition. At Skin Deep, we've designed toners for a range of skin scenarios, and every ingredient will produce a different effect. The point is, you need this thang, regardless of your skin type, and we're here to help!

Some of the incredible benefits of toner:

  • absorbs any residual makeup leftover after cleansing

  • removes excess oil, which further prevents acne

  • balances skin's pH levels

  • tightens and shrinks pores

  • adds another level of hydration

  • helpful for every skin type're probably still wondering how the hell you even use toner. There's different recommendations for different toners. For Skin Deep Toners, we suggest using a toner in both your morning and nightly routines. If you're using toner for the first time in your life, you may want to ease into it. Start off using it during your nightly ritual, every other day. Then, use in the PM every day, and finally everyday, twice a day. Here's a little step-by-step guide to follow:

  1. Rinse face and neck with warm water.

  2. Cleanse.

  3. Rinse cleanser off with COLD water. This will close those pores right up.

  4. Apply toner to TWO organic cotton face pads. You'll need an amount about the size of a quarter on each pad.

  5. Gently massage face pads all over face and neck. Use one pad for each half of your face.

  6. Follow directly with serum, then moisturizer.

We so hope this helps on your skincare journey! If you want to see less acne and dead skin, smaller pores, and a super cleansed and hydrated face, toner is the way to go!
